What happens when a fireman guy meets a rescue squad girl? Sparks apparently, which I guess led to a burning love because now they're married!
I recently had the privilege of photographing the wedding of Melanie Ikenson and Derrick Sloyer at the Lebanon Reformed Church. This was especially neat for me because my daughter was friends with Melanie growing up. So here's Melanie now, all grown up, captain of the rescue squad in our town of High Bridge and looking beautiful. Derrick is a fireman with the Milford fire Dept. They both got ready at the church and there were two of us photographing, so we split up and I photographed the guys, and my photographer Kristi photographed the girls. It was a beautiful day, so we were able to do lots of photos outside by the church which had these big old beautiful shade trees. Mel and Derrick are also members at this church and you could tell that the ceremony meant a lot to them. Afterwards they did a butterfly release and of course pictures with the firetruck and rescue squad vehicle. Then it was onto the Mountain View Chalet for the reception and a few more posed photos. During the reception there were lots of candid shots of people dancing and laughing and having a great time. Melenie's email address includes the nickname smileymel, which is appropriate because she was all smiles all day long. Everyone had a great time, especially the bride and groom and we were able to put together a beautiful album for them. I am always honored to photograph such an important day in the lives of a bride and groom, but especially honored when it's someone I know.
